The Society:
The Ouessant Sheep Society of Great Britain was formed in February 2005 by a group of enthiusiastic breeders and owners of the Ouessant sheep. The founding members came from all over the UK; as far as the North of Aberdeenshire, Isle of Man and Southern and South West England, with approximately twenty others to exchange ideas and views to form the society.
The society established a flock book and identity register for sheep and breeders in the UK. This is to ensure the purity of breed is kept in the UK, and new members can be certain of purchasing sheep from reliable registered members.
The main aims and tasks of the society:
Representation of the interests of the Ouessant Sheep.
Provide information for Ouessant Sheep owners/keepers and other interested parties.
Affiliation with French and Dutch Ouessant Sheep organizations.
Support of the international interests of the breed.
Registration.
Marketing and publicity.
Welfare.
Agricultural shows and exhibitions.
